เอ้อ ผมได้รับคำขอร้องแกมบังคับ จาก ท่าน ผ.บ. ซึ่งคุณรู้ดีคือใครว่า เมื่อไรผมจะเขียนเรื่องที่ผู้หญิงสนใจสักที ก็ได้ครับ กระผมจะลองพยายามดูนะครับ 

 

นึกไปนึกมาว่าจะเขียนอะไรดี ด้วยความที่เป็นคนชอบอ่านการ์ตูน ก็เอาละว้า เขียนเรื่องการ์ตูนนี่หละ แต่การ์ตูนสำหรับผู้หญิงด้วยละ ก็นึกขึ้นมาได้ว่า มีอยู่ ๒ เรื่องที่รู้จักตั้งแต่เด็ก เพราะพี่สาวก็ชอบเหมือนกันกับท่าน ผ.บ.  ครับ ผมจะขอพูดคุยเกี่ยวกับ การ์ตูนคลาสสิคญี่ปุ่น ๒ เรื่อง แคนดี้จอมแก่น  และ คำสาปฟาโรห์ อีกอย่างหนึ่ง ปีนี้ถือเป็นการครบรอบ ๔๐ ปีของ แคนดี้จอมแก่นด้วย

 

แคนดี้จอมแก่น สำหรับผม เป็นแบบฉบับเรื่องแรกของการ์ตูนที่พี่สาวผมเรียกว่า การ์ตูนตาโต ซึ่งผมน่าจะได้ดูในแบบการ์ตูนทีวี ซึ่งก็กว่า ๓๐ ปีมาแล้ว ก่อนที่จะได้อ่านแบบหนังสือในภายหลัง ก็เมื่อรู้จักท่าน ผ.บ. แล้ว

 

แคนดี้จอมแก่น ว่าถึงชีวิตของแคนดี้ เด็กกำพร้าในสหรัฐอเมริกายุค ต้นคริสต์ศตวรรษ ๒๐ แต่แต่งโดยนักเขียนญี่ปุ่น เคียวโกะ มิซูกิ (Kyoko Mizuki) ในปี ๒๕๑๘ ในรูปแบบนิยาย และหนังสือการ์ตูน (วาดโดย ยูมิโกะ อิการาชิ Yumiko Igarashi) ก่อนที่จะกลายมาเป็นการ์ตูนทีวี ในปีต่อมา แคนดี้เป็นคนร่าเริงแต่เป็นนักสู้ ชีวิตของเธอจะเผชิญกับเรื่องราวต่างๆนาๆ  ท้ังรัก โรแมนติค อิจฉาริษยา ผจญถัย รันทด

 

สิ่งที่น่ายกย่องและน่าประทับใจคือ ผู้เขียนไม่ได้แต่งเรื่องแบบตลาดทั่วไป ถึงแม้จะเป็นเรื่องรักโรแมนติค แต่ก็จริงจัง รักของแคนดี้ในที่สุด ก็ไม่สมหวัง ถึงแม้จะมีชายที่เธอรักมากผ่านมาในชีวิตถึง ๒ คน และจบลงแบบให้ชวนคิดต่อว่า ความสัมพันธ์ของเธอกับชายคนที่สาม อัลเบิร์ต จะเป็นรูปแบบใด ด้วยเนื้อเรื่องที่ชวนติดตาม จึงไม่ยากที่จะนับมันเป็นการ์ตูนคลาสสิคในดวงใจใครๆ ผมเองยังคงประทับใจไม่รู้ลืมกับ แคนดี้จอมแก่นมาจนทุกวันนี้ มีประโยคประทับใจประโยคหนึ่งที่ ผ.บ. ผมชอบมาก และผมก็ เอ่อ เห็นด้วยอย่างที่สุด คือ 'มีหนึ่ง ต้องแบ่งสอง' ซึ่งหมายรวมถึงทั้ง ความสุข และความทุกข์

 

น่าเสียดายมาก ผมและ ผ.บ. มีหนังสือชุดรวมเล่มครบชุด แต่ยังหาไม่เจอหลังจากย้ายบ้าน
 

 

Um, I have been asked and forced recently from the one you know who when I will write an article in faminine favor. As not the dominant force in the house, nothing I could do but to give it a try. 

Thinking hard about the topic, I have finally decided to write about comic books and cartoons as these are what I was crazy about long time ago, but comics for ladies?   I have to push my brain to the limit before finally deciding to write about 2 comic books I read when I was a kid, namely 'Candy Candy' and 'Crest of the Royal Family'.  Thanks to my elder sister who introduced the former to me and my you know who for the latter, though she loves them both. What a coincidence, this year, 2015, is 40th anniversary of Candy Candy also, wow! 

Candy Candy, to me, is the pioneer work of Japanese Manga (comic book) which my sister referred to as 'Big Eye' comic.  It is probably the most well know comic for girls and regarded as a classic from worldwide.  I remember watching it with my sister in TV first probably 30 years ago before reading the comic book later with my better half. 

Candy Candy is about a girl from an orphanage with strong heart in early 20 century in America.  It was created by a Japanese author named Kyoko Mizuki who wrote it in 1975 as a novel.  It was developed into comic book illustrated by Yumiko Igarashi on the same year before adapted into TV animation series in 1976.  Candy is cheerful and gentle girl who does not hesitate to fight for righteousness.  There are many things coming to her life : love , jealous, adventure, and sorrow. 

The beauty of this story is that it was well crafted and unlike general fairy tale style, Candy does not end up with a happiness love, even though there are 2 men in her life whom she loves most.   Moreover, it is kind of leaving the readers to ponder and imagine  as to the relationship between Candy  and the third man in her life, Albert.   With compelling story, coupled with what I mentioned, it has found a place in most readers' and watchers' hearts and became truly a classic.  I myself love this story very much.  There is on quote from Candy Candy that my better half adore it so much, and I er..also agree.  ' it is good to share somethings between two people' which defines both happiness and sorrow. 

It is a pity; we have lost our Candy Candy comic book collection when we moved to new house and is yet to find it. :(

 มาว่ากันถึงอีกเรื่อง คำสาปฟาโรห์ เป็นเรื่องราวในปัจจุบัน ของเด็กสาวอเมริกันที่ชื่อแครอล นักเรียนโบราณคดีใน อียิปต์ ซึ่งต้องคำสาปในขณะขุดค้นสุสานของฟาโรห์หนุ่มชื่อ เมมฟิส ทำให้เธอกลับย้อนอดีตไปพบกับฟาโรห์เมมฟิสองค์นั้นนั่นเอง แครอล ต้องใช้ชีวิตผจญภัยไปกับเมมฟิส ในอาณาจักรอียิปต์โบราณที่เต็มไปด้วยความขัดแย้งกับอาณาจักรเพื่อนบ้าน การชิงอำนาจ และความอิจฉาริษยา และ แน่นอน รักหลายเส้า 

เช่นกัน แม้เรื่องราวจะเกี่ยวกับเด็กสาวอเมริกันและอียิปต์โบราณ แต่เรื่องนี้ก็แต่งโดยชาวญี่ปุ่นนาม ชิเอโกะ โฮโซกาวะ (Chieko Hosokawa) ในปี ๒๕๑๙ และเชื่อหรือไม่ เท่าที่ผม และ ผ.บ. ติดตามจากหนังสือการ์ตูนก็ยาวนานเป็น ๑๐ ปี เรื่องก็ยังไม่จบสักที จนเราลืมๆติดตามในระยะหลัง จนบัดนี้ก็ยังไม่แน่ใจว่าจบบริบูรณ์หรือยัง  อย่างไรก็ตาม มันก็ได้กลายเป็นเรื่องในดวงใจของนักอ่านเช่นกัน 

ในความเห็นส่วนตัว แคนดี้จอมแก่นมีองค์ประกอบที่ค่อนข้างสมบูรณ์ โดยมุ่งเน้นถึงความดีงาม มองโลกแง่ดีและ การมีความหวังพร้อมสู้ต่อไป เท่านี้ก็เพียงพอที่จะทำให้มันเป็นงานอมตะแล้ว เยาวชนนักอ่านรุ่นใหม่สมควรเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ที่จะต้องลองติดตามการ์ตูนเรื่องนี้ 

คำสาปฟาโรห์อาศัยเรื่องรักโรแมนติคผูกติดกับเหตุการณ์ประวัติศาสตร์ที่ซับซ้อนในระดับมหากาพย์ น่าเสียดายดังที่กล่าวมาแล้วว่า เรื่องควรมีบทสรุปที่ชัดเจน โดยไม่ปล่อยให้ยืดเยื้อเกินไปขนาดนี้ แต่ก็เป็นการสมควรเช่นกัน ที่จะต้องแนะนำนักอ่านรุ่นใหม่ให้รู้จักกับมัน

Then let us look at the other one, Crest of the Royal Family aka Daughter of the Nile is the story of an American young girl named Carol who lives in present day.  She is keen to archaeology and while exploring a tomb in Egypt with her professor, has been casted a spell and fall back into ancient period of Egypt. There, she meets a young Pharaoh called Memphis whose tomb she was exploring.  Her life from then on has been intertwined with the conflict between ancient Egypt and its neighbors.  The story is also full of  love, romance, jealous, adventure, and power play. 

Similarly, though the story centers an American girl, it was written by a Japanese author, Chieko Hosokawa.  She wrote the story in 1976, one year after Candy Candy was introduced into the world.  Believe it or not, I and my wife have read this comic since we were in undergraduate study for about 10 years. It was not finished yet at that time and because of other things, we ceased to follow this story.  Until now, we are still not sure if the story has come to an end yet.  Anyway, Crest of the Royal Family has also became a classic.

 

In my humble opinion, Candy Candy contains perfect ingredients.  It especially promotes righteousness, positive thinking, and hope.  So, no wonder it has become timeless master piece.  It is a must that young readers try grabbing a hold and reading a copy of this wonderful story.

Crest of the Royal Family author cleverly fabricated romantic with ancient history to achieve an epic scale story.  It should, however, have an appropriate ending rather than keeping the story prolong like this.  It is, nevertheless, still worthy for the new generation readers to read it.

Divergent and Examination Day - Divergent คนแยกโลก และ เด็กวันสอบ

ผมเพิ่งมีโอกาสดูหนังเรื่อง Divergent คนแยกโลก จาก แผ่นดีวีดี เมื่อกลางมีนาคมที่ผ่านมานี้เอง ขอพูดถึงตัวหนังสักเล็กน้อย เพราะบทความนี้ไม่ได้มุ่งที่จะเขียนวิจารณ์หนังเรื่องนี้เป็นหลัก ตัวหนังสนุกมาก ให้ความบันเทิงได้ดี ลูกสาวผมชอบมาก ถึงขั้นหลงใหลเลยละ เธอบอกว่าต้องไปดูภาคต่อ ซึ่งก็คือ Insurgent คนกบฎโลก แน่นอน สำหรับผมในความคิดส่วนตัว บางช่วงของหนังดำเนินเรื่องง่ายไปหน่อย เช่นช่วงที่นางเอกพาพ่อและน้องบุกศูนย์ควบคุม ไม่มีกล้องวงจรปิดไว้ตรวจสอบความปลอดภัยในตึกเลย ทั้งๆที่ในตัวเมืองมีเยอะแยะ

ประเด็นที่อยากจะพูดถึงวันนี้คือ ในบางช่วงของหนัง ทำให้ผมหวนไปนึกถึงนิยายวิทยาศาสตร์ขนาดสั้นเรื่องหนึ่งซึ่งได้อ่านเมื่อ...อีกแล้วครับ... กว่า ๓๐ ปีที่แล้ว และยังถูกนำมาดัดแปลงเป็นตอนหนึ่งของรายการทีวี แดนสนธยา (Twilight Zone) อีกด้วย ช่วงที่ผมพูดถึงก็คือ การที่นางเอกต้องไปรับการทดสอบว่าตัวเอง เหมาะสมกับการจะเลือกเข้ากลุ่มไหนของสังคม สำหรับผู้ไม่เคยชมหนังเรื่องนี้ หนังกล่าวถึงโลกอนาคต ในแบบที่เรียกว่า สังคมตรงข้ามอุดมคติ (Dystopia) ผู้คนถูกแบ่งออกเป็น ๕ กลุ่มตามความเหมาะสมที่ได้รับจากการทดสอบเมื่ออายุ ๑๖ ปี ได้แก่ กลุ่มผู้เสียสละ, กลุ่มผู้กล้าหาญ, กลุ่มผู้รักสันติ, กลุ่มผู้มีปัญญา และกลุ่มผู้ซื่อสัตย์ ผลจากการทดสอบทางจิต ซึ่งต้องมีการฉีดซีรั่มให้เผชิญสถานะการแบบเสมือนจริง นางเอกไม่เข้าพวกกลุ่มใดทั้งสิ้น เรียกว่าพวกผู้แตกต่าง (Divergent) ซึ่งจริงๆแล้วนางเอกจะต้องถูกกำจัดทิ้ง เพราะว่าจะเป็นภัยต่อรัฐบาลได้ในอนาคต แต่นางเอกรอดมาได้ เพราะผู้ทดสอบช่วยปิดบังผลที่ได้จริง และใส่ผลว่านางเอกเป็นพวกผู้เสียสละ

ตรงนี้ละครับ ที่ไปตรงกับนิยายวิทยาศาสตร์ที่ผมกล่าวถึง นิยายเรื่องนั้นชื่อ เด็กวันสอบ (Examination Day) เขียนโดย เฮนรี่ สเลสเสอร์ (Henry Slesar) ตั้งแต่ปี ๒๕๐๑ ลงตีพิมพ์ใน นิตยสารเพลย์บอย (Playboy) และถูกแปลและตีพิมพ์ในเมืองไทย ในหนังสือรวมเรื่องสั้นวิทยาศาสตร์ ชุด เด็กอัจฉริยะ ผมจำสำนักพิมพ์ไม่ได้ ในช่วงปี ๒๕๒๕ ถึง ๒๕๒๗ และกลายมาเป็นหนังทีวีในแดนสนธยาในปี ๒๕๒๘

เด็กวันสอบ กล่าวถึงสังคมตรงข้ามอุดมคติเช่นกัน และที่แทบจะเหมือนกันก็คือ เมื่อเด็กมีอายุถึง ๑๒ ปี พวกเขาต้องเข้ารับการทดสอบเช่นกัน ซึ่งต้องมีการดื่มยาเพื่อให้พูดความจริง ที่ต่างกันก็คือในเรื่องนี้ เป็นการทดสอบระดับความฉลาด แต่ผลลัพธ์เเหมือนกันคือ ถ้าเด็กคนไหนมี่ค่าความฉลาดเกินกว่าที่รัฐบาลกำหนด พวกเขาจะต้องถูกกำจัดทันที! แน่นอน ด้วยเหตุผลเดียวกัน แต่บทสรุปของเด็กวันสอบนั้น จริงจังมากกว่าที่นางเอกคนแยกโลกได้รับ ขอบอกแค่นี้ครับ

ด้วยความสงสัยว่าผู้แต่งเรื่อง คนแยกโลก ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจหรืออย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง จากเรื่องสั้น เด็กวันสอบหรือไม่ ผมพยายามหาใน วิคกีพีเดีย และ กูเกิล แต่ไม่มีที่ไหนกล่าวถึง ถ้าผู้อ่านคนไหนทราบข้อเท็จจริง ก็มาบอกกล่าวกันได้ครับ

I just had chance to watch the movie Divergent recently from the DVD.  I will touch upon it a little since this is not the main topic today.  I have found the movie quite entertaining.  My daughter has even obsessed with it and said she will surely watch the sequel.  To me, there are some loopholes I see.  For example, why there is no CCTV on the government presumed commanding centre.  As a result, Tris's group can sneak into quite easily.

What I want to show is one concept in the movie reminding me about a short Sci-Fi story I read, again :) lol, more than 30 years ago.  It was also adapted into on episode of the Twilight Zone series.  The part I am referring is when Tris has to go for the psycological test to choose the faction she will adapt.  For those never seen the movie or read the novel, it is about the future dystopian world ,where society is divided into 5 factions , namely Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent).  People need to choose the faction when they reach 16 years of age suggested by test result they get.  The test involves serum-induced also.  We learned from the movie that Tris does not belong to any specific faction for she holds all faction aspects.  This means she is Divergent.  We also learned that those with Divergent factions must be eliminated because the government is afraid that they will pose problems against the government in future.  Tris's life was spared only becuase the test clerk help render her result as Abnegation.

This particular point is similar to the short story Examination Day by Henry Slesar, first published in Playboy in 1958, and adapted into the Twilight Zone series in 1985.  It was also translated and printed in Thailand during 1983-84.

Dystopian Society also plays a big role in the Examination Day.  The govenrment required all children  to sit in the test when they are 12 years old.  It is the IQ Test, however, in this story.  The children will also be given drug in form of liquid to ensure they do the test according to their actual intellectual.  And the new law imposed by the government requires all those with beyond intelligent level be terminated. The same reason with the Divergent is assumed, of course. 

I wonder if the author of the Divergent novel has some inspirations or anything at all related to the Examination Day or not but I could not find any clue from wikipedia and google.   I would appreciate those of you who know about this, and share your findings .
