เมื่อปลายปีที่ผ่านมา ผมมีโอกาสเดินทางไปประเทศญี่ปุ่น
ลูกสาวชวนไปเที่ยวโอซาก้าเพื่อไปเที่ยว ยูนิเวอร์แซลสตูดิโอ ผมก็ดีใจเพราะมีโอกาสที่จะเล่นเครื่องเล่นจากหนังในดวงใจของผม
จอว์ส มันนำมาซึ่งความรู้สึกระลึกถึงความหลังอย่างมากกับผม
ครับนึกขึ้นมาได้ว่า ปีนี้เป็นปีครบรอบ ๔๐ ปีของหนังเรื่องนี้ด้วย มันถูกออกฉายครั้งแรกในวันที่ ๒๐ มิถนายน ๒๕๑๘ ผมจึงขอร่วมฉลองโอกาสพิเศษด้วยการพูดคุยว่าทำไม ผมจึงมีความประทับใจกับมันมาก
ตอนจอว์สออกฉาย ผมยังเรียนอยู่ชั้นประถมตอนปลาย ยังจำได้ถึงกระแสการพูดถึงจากปากต่อปาก การโฆษณาทางวิทยุที่เร้าใจ
สิ่งที่ผมประทับใจมากมีอยู่สามสิ่ง ที่อยากกล่าวถึง อย่างแรกคือ องค์ประกอบและบรรยากาศของหนัง ซึ่งผมพบว่าไม่เหมือนหนังเรื่องใดที่เคยดูมาก่อน อาจจะเป็นด้วยรูปแบบของหนัง ที่นักวิจารณ์เรียกว่า เป็นแบบฮิต์ชค็อค (เซอร์ อัลเฟร็ด ฮิต์ชค็อค ๒๔๔๒-๒๕๒๓ ผู้กำกับชื่อดังชาวอังกฤษผู้ล่วงลับ ต้นแบบของหนังระทึกขวัญ เน้นบรรยากาศแบบลึกลับ ซ่อนเร้น ไม่เน้น เลือดท่วมจอในการสร้างความรู้สึกร่วมแก่ผู้ชม) สพีลเบิร์ก ใช้สไตล์นี้ในการกำกับ กล่าวคือ กว่าที่ผู้ชมจะได้เห็นเจ้าฉลามยักษ์ ก็เป็นในช่วงหลังของหนังแล้ว จะตั้งใจหรือไม่ตั้งใจก็เถอะ อย่างที่สพีลเบิร์กพูดไว้แหละ ยิ่งมองไม่เห็น ยิ่งน่ากลัว
ที่ผมทิ้งท้ายประโยคที่แล้ว ก็นำมาสู่สิ่งที่สองที่ผมประทับใจ เจ้าฉลามกลชื่อ บรูซที่ใช้เข้าฉากนั่นเอง ดังที่ทราบในภายหลังว่า กว่าที่เราจะได้เห็นเจ้าฉลามยักษ์ในช่วงท้ายเรื่อง มาจากเหตุผลแท้จริงที่ว่าเจ้าฉลามกลเต็มไปด้วยปัญหา ใช้งานไม่ค่อยได้ อย่าลืมว่านี่เป็นเทคโนโลยีเมื่อ สี่สิบปีที่แล้ว สำหรับผม คงจะชื่นชมหนังเรื่องนี้น้อยลง ถ้าเจ้าฉลามยักษ์และท้องทะเลถูกสร้างด้วยเทคโนโลยี ซีจี ดังในปัจจุบัน โดยส่วนตัวแล้ว สัดส่วนเวลาที่เจ้าฉลามกลปรากฏตัวนั้นเหมาะสมแล้ว และมันดูน่าเชื่อถือกว่าการใช้ ซีจี จริงๆ
สิ่งสุดท้ายที่เมื่อพูดถึงหนังเรื่องนี้เมื่อไรทุกคนก็จะต้องนึกถึง ก็คือ เพลงประกอบ ของจอห์น วิลเลียมนั่นเอง ใครจะไปเชื่อว่า ด้วยโน้ตแค่สองตัว มันจะสร้างอารมณ์ร่วมและเอกลักษณ์แก่หนังได้มากขนาดนี้ สพีลเบิร์กเองยังคิดว่า วิลเลียมล้อเล่นเมื่อบอกว่าใช้โน้ตแค่สองตัวแทนตัวปลาฉลามและการคุกคามของมัน
สำหรับผมแล้วมันสุดยอดจริงๆ ด้วยองค์ประกอบเหล่านี้ จอว์สยังคงเป็นหนังในดวงใจของผม มาจนทุกวันนี้ และจอว์สยังเป็นหนังต้นแบบที่มีหนังเลียนแบบตามมาอีกมากมายจนถึงทุกวันนี้

สุดท้ายนี้ ขอกลับไปกล่าวถึงเครื่องเล่นจอว์ส ที่ยูนิเวอร์เซล โอซาก้าอีกครั้ง ผมไปโดยไม่ได้เตรียมตัวอะไร และพนักงานชาวญี่ปุ่น ก็บรรยายเหตุการณ์เป็นภาษาญี่ปุ่นอย่างเดียว ก็เลยไม่ค่อยเข้าใจเนื้อเรื่องของเครื่องเล่นนัก แต่ก็ยังประทับใจอยู่ดี ถ้าได้อ่านเรื่องราวมาก่อน คงจะดีกว่านี้ แต่ก็ดีใจที่ได้ไปนะครับ เพราะเครื่องเล่นตัวนี้ที่ อเมริกาถูกปิดไปแล้ว ฝูงชนที่เข้าแถวรอเล่นก็ยาวเหยียด ไม่แพ้เครื่องเล่นอื่นๆ ทำให้รู้สึกดีอ
อ้อ สุดท้ายของสุดท้ายจริงๆ เมื่อตอนผมได้ดุหนังเรื่อง ปิรันย่า ๓ ดี กัดแหลกแหวกทะลุ (Piranha 3D) เมื่อสักสี่ห้าปีที่แล้วนั้น ผมก็รู้สึกดีเหมือนกันเพราะรู้ว่า ปิรันย่า ๓ ดี มีการแสดงการคารวะต่อ จอว์ส ทั้งจาก ดารารับเชิญอาวุโสจาก จอว์ส ริชาร์ด ดรัยฟัสส์ (Richard Dreyfuss) และใบปิดโฆษณาหนังที่คล้ายคลึงกับของจอว์สนั่นเอง
แล้วก็ยังมีสุดท้ายเพิ่มอีกจนได้ ในหนังจูราสสิคเวิลด์ ผมว่ามีการแสดงคารวะต่อจอว์สเนื่องด้วยการครบรอบ ๔๐ ปีด้วยนะ ฌหมือนอย่างที่บางคนเห็น ฉากการใช้ฉลามยักษ์เป็นอาหารป้อนให้กับโมซาเซารัส (Mosasaurus) กับที่นางเอกพูดว่าเราต้องใช้ฟันเพิ่มมาสู้ก็คล้ายกับที่พระเอกโบรดี้พูดในจอว์สว่าเราต้องการเรือลำใหญ่กว่านี้ นอกจากนี้ผมว่าเพลงประกอบช่วงที่ทีมฉุกเฉินออกตามล่าเจ้าอินโดมินัส เร็กซ์(Indominus rex) ก็น่าจะคารวะเจ้าโน็ตสองตัวอันโด่งดังของจอว์สด้วยเช่นกัน

Late last year, I had a chance to visit Japan with my family. With my daughter influence, I went to Osaka with her for the Universal Studio. I felt good for I would have opportunity to go to an attraction derived from my all-time favorite movie, Jaws. It really brought out strong nostalgia to me.
Yeah, it just happens that this year would be the 40th anniversary of this movie. It was released first on 20 June 1975. So I would like to commemorate such occasion by telling you why It is the most beloved of mine.
When Jaws was released back in 1975, I was still in my late primary year. I still remember the word of mouths about this movie clearly like it is happening today. This included rousing radio spots to promote the movie.
There are three things that I like most about this movie about which I like to tell you. The first thing is its atmosphere and components. I had never felt anything like this before in my previous film experience. It may be the style which critics called Hitchcockian (referred to directing style of the late Sir Alfred Hitchcock 1899-1980, The great British director who used suspense, mystery to provoke the audiences rather than explicit blood and gore). Spielberg used this style with Jaws evidenced by the exposure of the Great shark at the second half of the film rather than at the beginning, regardless of intention or not. Like what Spielberg said, It’s what we don’t see which is truly frightening.
This leads to the second component I really admire, the mechanical shark nicknamed Bruce. Although I later know that the unreliable Bruce is the reason Spielberg had to use Hitchcock style directing, I still think it is more believable than using today CG technology to portray the shark and the ocean. And I also think that the time proportion of the shark we see in the film is already appropriate. I would admire this movie less with the CG.
The last ingredient is of course what every must talk about when speaking of this film, the Music by John William. Who would believe that with just two notes, it will create the strong feeling among the audience and also become such a memorable icon of the film. Even Spielberg admitted that he though John William was joking when referring to him in the first place that only two notes represented the shark and its impending danger. To me, the OST is indeed incredible.
With these best ingredients, there is no wonder the film is still my all-time favorite untill today. Also, there have been heaps of copy-cat films in this genre since that time until now.
Now I would like to say some things again about the Japanese theme park, I went there unprepared and the Park staff used only Japanese describing the situation and story of the attraction. So I did not understand much about the event happening during the ride. It would be better if I read the story available in Wiki before going there. I still enjoyed it though since I knew that the original attraction in the US was already closed. Also I felt really good to see that the long queue of crowd waiting for this ride is as much as those of the other attractions.

Finally, I still felt good watching the film PIRANHA 3D couple of years ago for I know that such film paid homage to Jaws. This was from special guest veteran star from Jaws; Richard Dreyfuss and the design of the movie poster which resembled that of Jaws'.
Last of the last again, lol, I also agree with some who spotted the tribute of JAWS in Jurassic word as this year is the 40th anniversary of the former. Especially of the feeding of great white shark to Mosasaurus and when Claire said we need more teeth which is similar to Brody mentioned that we are gonna need bigger boat. I also think that the music during the ACU hunting scene does resemble the famous two note of JAWS sound track. What do you think?
