October of this year (2021) will mark the 39th anniversary of another famous Japanese anime, SDF Macross. For me, Macross was another important milestone of anime history as it introduced its unique sinature ie space battle, transformable fighter jets, and most importantly the love triangle.

To those unfamiliar with Macross, it is anime about the war between human and alien Zentradie. It was produced to follow the success of Japanese space opera TV annime series on air earlier like Space Battleship Yamato and Gundam. What makes Macross stand out of the other two are the use of music within the story and of course the love triangle which is the focus of my article today.

I love the romance gradually developed between Misa Hayase, the bridge operator of Macross, and Hikaru Ichijo, the Vakyrie pilot. As mentioned in gubbablog that astute viewers may be able to identify the real love story between Misa and Hikaru since early episodes, I must be one of them for I had set my eyes on Misa and Hikaru as early as the first episode and felt Misa is the one for Hikaru, not Lyn Mynmay, a young girl turn to an idol. Do not get me wrong, I do not hate Mynmay like several western viewers do as a result of the influence by Robotech picturing her as a selfish girl. I like her character as well as her music though my choice is always Misa Hayase. Mynmay character helps strengthen the love story between Misa and Hikaru at the end as it shows us what hardship they went through before they could get together.

At first Hikaru felt strongly attracted to Lyn Minmay and the relationship between him and Misa was quite an opposite. It is a rough commander-subordinate interaction. This changed however gradually over the course of the series during the first 27 episodes when both start to fond off each other as series go by. While Misa initially hated Hikaru, she fell deeply in love with him since the half way through the course. Hikaru on the other hand subconsciously and slowly moved away from Mynmay for Misa. I personally love the ‘phantasm’ episode since it implied that Misa is indeed in Hikaru subconscious and you could tell that the love between them will prevail. Until almost at the climax of the battle when he realised his true feeling and the two hearts finally and honestly aligned together at the end of ep 27.

The second part of the show ruined the perfect romance between Misa and Hikaru beautifully set earlier and tarnished Hikaru in people’s perception as childish and indecisive. This was later rendered satisfactorily in Macross Do You Remember Love(DYRL) when Hikaru was courage enough and declared his love to Misa before the great battle which is a truly romantic moment. The only good thing of the second part is that Misa was drawn beautifully.

I really love Misa Hayase character. She has become my favourite anime protagonist of all time since then. Misa has her strength as shown in her military intuitiveness yet demonstrates fragility in her emotions towards her past love and of course Hikaru.

The love between Misa and Hikaru is also unusual and compelling since she is a couple of years older than him and Misa is Hikaru’s commanding officer. I do not think you found this in Japanese anime prior than Macross. This signifies the romance between them even further.

I personally love almost all Misa and Hikaru fan arts found in the internet, but I do love Misa and Hikaru fan art done by Maru K the most. The illustrations can be found in Macross Fan Central face book group.

After almost 40 years, I am surprised and glad to find out that there are still so many fans out there still loving this best and legendary couple of all Macross series . For me, Misa Hayase is really the true queen of Macross. One last hope is that there will be redemption of her reputation as the captain of the Megaroad 01. Finally I need to say this, Misa and Hikaru forever.

ตุลาคมของปีนี้ (๒๕๖๔) จะเป็นวันครบรอบ ๓๙ ปีของอนิเมะญี่ปุ่นชื่อดัง ปราการเหินฟ้ามาครอส สำหรับผม มาครอส เป็นอีกก้าวที่สำคัญของประวัติศาสตร์อะนิเมะเนื่องจากได้เปิดตัวลายเซ็นที่ไม่เหมือนใคร ซึ่งก็คือ การต่อสู้ในอวกาศ เครื่องบินขับไล่ที่ปรับเปลี่ยนร่างได้ และที่สำคัญที่สุดคือรักสามเส้า

สำหรับผู้ที่ไม่คุ้นเคยกับ มาครอส มันคืออะนิเมะเกี่ยวกับสงครามระหว่างมนุษย์และมนุษย์ต่างดาว เซนทราดี้ ผลิตขึ้นเพื่อตามรอยความสำเร็จของซีรีส์อนิเมะสงครามอวกาศรุ่นพี่ของญี่ปุ่นที่ออกอากาศก่อนหน้านี้เช่น เรือรบอวกาศ ยามาโต้ และ กันดัมสิ่งที่ทำให้ มาครอส โดดเด่นต่างจากอีกสองเรื่องนั้นคือการใช้ดนตรีในเรื่องราวและแน่นอนว่ารักสามเส้าซึ่งเป็นจุดสนใจของบทความของผมในวันนี้

ผมชอบความโรแมนติกที่ค่อยๆ พัฒนาขึ้นระหว่าง มิสะ ฮายาเสะ ผู้ควบคุมหอบังคับการของ ยานมาครอส และ ฮิคารุ อิชิโจ นักบิน เครืองวาลคิรี ดังที่ได้กล่าวไว้ในเพจของ gubbablog ว่าผู้ชมที่มีไหวพริบอาจสามารถระบุเรื่องราวความรักที่แท้จริงระหว่าง มิสะ และ ฮิคารุ ได้ตั้งแต่ตอนแรก ผมคงเป็นหนึ่งในนั้นเพราะผมจับตาดู มิสะและ ฮิคารุตั้งแต่ตอนแรกและรู้สึกว่าเป็น มิสะ ไม่ใช่ลิน มินเมย์ เด็กสาวที่จะกลายเป็นไอดอล ที่ฮิคารุเลือกที่จะรัก อย่าเข้าใจผมผิด ผมไม่ได้เกลียด มินเมย์ เหมือนที่ผู้ชมชาวตะวันตกหลายคนรู้สึก อันเป็นผลมาจากอิทธิพลของ โรโบเทค ที่วาดภาพเธอว่าเป็นผู้หญิงที่เห็นแก่ตัว ผมชอบตัวละครของเธอและดนตรีของเธอ แม้ว่าตัวเลือกของผมคือมิสะ ฮายาเสะเสมอ ตัวละคร มินเมย์ ช่วยเสริมความแข็งแกร่งให้กับเรื่องราวความรักระหว่าง มิสะ และ ฮิคารุ ที่จะลงเอยในตอนท้าย ซึ่งแสดงให้เราเห็นว่าพวกเขาผ่านความยากลำบากอะไรมาบ้างก่อนที่พวกเขาจะได้อยู่ด้วยกัน

ในตอนแรกฮิคารุรู้สึกดึงดูดใจอย่างมากต่อลิน มินเมย์ และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเขากับมิสะค่อนข้างตรงกันข้าม เป็นการไม่ลงรอยระหว่างผู้บังคับบัญชากับลูกน้อง

แต่ความรู้สึกนี้ จะค่อยๆเปลี่ยนไปในแต่ละตอนเมื่อเรื่องราวดำเนินไปในตลอด ๒๗ตอนแรก ในขณะที่มิสะไม่ค่อยถูกชะตากับฮิคารุในตอนแรกๆ เธอตกหลุมรักเขาอย่างสุดซึ้งตั้งแต่ครึ่งทางของเรื่อง ในทางกลับกัน ฮิคารุค่อยๆ เปลี่ยนใจจากมินเมย์ไปหามิสะโดยไม่รู้ตัว โดยส่วนตัวแล้วผมชอบตอน 'phantasm' เพราะมันบอกเป็นนัยว่า มิสะอยู่ในจิตใต้สำนึกของฮิคารุ และคุณสามารถบอกได้ว่ามันจะลงเอยด้วยความรักระหว่างพวกเขาในท้ายที่สุด

จนกระทั่งเกือบจะถึงจุดไคลแม็กซ์ของการประจัญบานเมื่อฮิคารุตระหนักถึงความรู้สึกที่แท้จริงของเขา และในที่สุดหัวใจทั้งสองก็ประสานกันในตอนจบของตอนที่ ๒๗

ส่วนที่สองของเรื่องได้ทำลายการเดินเรื่องความรักที่สมบูรณ์แบบก่อนหน้านี้ระหว่างมิสะและฮิคารุจนหมดสิ้น และทำให้ฮิคารุมัวหมองในการรับรู้ของผู้ชมว่าเป็นเด็กและไม่กล้าตัดสินใจ ยังดีที่ภายหลัง สิ่งเหล่านี้ถูกแก้ไขอย่างน่าพอใจใน Macross Do You Remember Love (DYRL) เมื่อฮิคารุมีความกล้าตัดสินใจและประกาศความรักของเขาต่อมิสะก่อนการต่อสู้ครั้งยิ่งใหญ่ซึ่งเป็นช่วงเวลาที่โรแมนติกอย่างแท้จริง สิ่งเดียวที่ดีของส่วนที่สองคือมิสะถูกวาดได้อย่างสวยงาม

ผมชอบตัวละครมิสะ ฮายาเสะมากๆ เธอได้กลายเป็นตัวเอกอนิเมะที่ผมโปรดปรานตลอดกาลตั้งแต่นั้นมา มิสะมีความแข็งแกร่งตามที่แสดงให้เห็นในสัญชาตญาณทางทหารของเธอ แต่ยังแสดงให้เห็นถึงความเปราะบางในอารมณ์ของเธอที่มีต่อความรักในอดีตของเธอและแน่นอนต่อฮิคารุ

ความรักระหว่างมิสะกับฮิคารุนั้นไม่ธรรมดาและจับใจมากเช่นกันเพราะเธออายุมากกว่าเขาสองสามปีและมิสะเป็นผู้บัญชาการของฮิคารุ ผมไม่คิดว่าคุณพบสิ่งนี้ในอะนิเมะญี่ปุ่นที่มาก่อนมาครอส นี่แสดงถึงความโรแมนติกระหว่างพวกเขาให้ดียิ่งขึ้นไปอีก

โดยส่วนตัวแล้วผมชอบแฟนอาร์ตของ มิสะและฮิคารุ เกือบทั้งหมดที่พบในอินเทอร์เน็ตแต่ผมชอบแฟนอาร์ต มิสะและฮิคารุที่เสนอโดย Maru K มากที่สุด งานของ Maru K สามารถพบได้ในกลุ่มเฟสบุ๊คของ Macross Fan Central

ผ่านไปเกือบ ๔๐ ปี ผมรู้สึกประหลาดใจและดีใจที่พบว่ายังมีแฟนๆ อีกจำนวนมากที่ยังคงรักคู่รักในตำนานคู่นี้ สำหรับผม มิสะ ฮายาเสะ เป็นราชินีที่แท้จริงของซีรีส์มาครอส ความหวังสุดท้ายอย่างหนึ่งคือการไถ่ชื่อเสียงของเธอในฐานะกัปตันของ Megaroad 01 สุดท้ายนี้ ผมต้องพูดแบบนี้ละ มิสะและฮิคารุตลอดไป

It should have ended here. มันควรจะจบลงแล้วในฉากนี้

Macross Do You Remember Love got everything right. A true masterpiece. มาครอส DYRL เดินเรื่องถูกต้องหมด

It is Misa’s hand closing the photo album in which finally has her picture attached. It is so touching but again this should be at the end of episode 27 with different picture.
